Great Egrets return to my area every spring. During migration, I often see these graceful birds congregate in large numbers, which is a stunning sight.

Flowering Dogwood is a native plant found throughout Ohio and the eastern half of the United States. Black-capped chickadees are one of my favorite small birds that have huge personalities!

Barred owls can often be spotted during the evening hours. These owls, also known as Swamp owl, Wood owl and Rain owl, can be identified by their "Who cooks for you, who cooks for you all" call.

The Belted Kingfisher is one of the few bird species in which the female is more brightly colored than the male. They build nests in earthen banks near water, and these fish eating birds can often be seen perched along waterways.

I love Canada Geese. Many see these birds as pests, but I love their distinctive appearance and hearing their honks and wing beats as a flock passes low overhead. When I was in high school,my family was fortunate to be the home for two of these birds who had imprinted on people. It was an amazing experience, similar to the movie Fly Away Home (without the whole migrating part!!)
